Anderson Road S.W. widening

Project update - August 8, 2019

Construction activities continue with the goal of completing this project by the end of 2019. We'd like to thank the residents of southwest Calgary for their patience and understanding as we move forward. Watch this video for an update on the project.

Anderson Road Widening between 14 Street and 24 Street - Phase 2 North
Work is now underway on widening the westbound lanes of Anderson Road. During this phase, all traffic has been shifted to the south allowing for reconstruction of the existing westbound lanes. This work will last until early October.

Anderson Road/Woodpark Blvd. Intersection
Crews will be back in the fall to finish the final paving.

Noise Barrier Construction
Construction of the noise wall on the south side of Anderson Road, east of Woodpark Boulevard, will take place in 2019.

About the project

This project is one of several City-led projects to connect Calgary's road network to the ring road and will accommodate changes to traffic volume and patterns that are expected after the opening of the Southwest Ring Road (SWRR).

The City is responsible for the design and construction of this project because it is located within city limits. It includes the following features:

  • Increasing Anderson Road from four to six lanes between the SWRR and Elbow Drive S.W. This, coupled with the higher speed limit of 80 km/hr and fewer intersections compared to other nearby east-west roads, makes it a more attractive option for people traveling through the area.
  • Adding extra turning lanes at all the intersections on Anderson Road between the SWRR and Elbow Drive S.W. will improve the flow of traffic along this route.
  • A noise study was conducted and determined that several locations along Anderson Road within the project area require noise barriers, as guided by The City's Surface Noise Policy. Information on the location and types of noise barriers are shown here.
