Southwest BRT - Noise walls

The City of Calgary identifies locations throughout the city with traffic noise levels in excess of The City’s Surface Transportation Noise Policy. As part of the Southwest Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) design, noise studies were conducted at locations along the route.

The study identified that noise levels exceeded our threshold of 65 dBA, in some areas.

The 2016 - 2018 Noise Barrier Retrofit Program also identified areas that qualify for the installation of a noise barrier along the BRT route, and we will be building these noise walls starting this fall.

Noise walls installed along Southwest BRT route

There are three areas where noise walls will be installed along the Southwest BRT route:

Construction of the noise barriers is expected to begin in October 2019. Before we proceed with the installation of this new noise barrier, we will need to visit each residential property directly adjacent to the noise wall alignment, to complete a resident home documentation form. This process includes taking photos of the existing conditions of each property and taking an inventory of the area beside the existing fence in your backyard prior to any work being done.

Once construction is complete, we will be visiting each property again to confirm that affected residential property landscaping, fences, etc. are restored.
