There is a minor closure on eastbound Glenmore Trial at 14 Street S.W. this Thursday and Friday so crews can finish concrete median work:

  • December 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Eastbound Glenmore Trail will have single lane closures.
  • December 13, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Eastbound Glenmore Trail will have single lane closures.

Over the next few weeks before the holidays the majority of the work between 90 and 75 Ave. SW will be on curbs, barriers, street lighting in the transitway, and pedestrian connections at the MAX stations. Crews are continuing with electrical and equipment installations at the MAX stations along the route. Calgary Transit has started driver training on the transitway in preparation for the start of MAX service on December 23, 2019.

Southwest Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

The Southwest BRT project is one of four additions to The City's primary transit network. The project includes new BRT stations along the length of the route, and construction of new bus-only travel lanes on 14 Street W between Southland Drive and 75 Avenue S.W. Buses will run in mixed traffic along the rest of the route, except on portions of Glenmore Trail and Crowchild Trail, where buses will be able to use the shoulder lanes to bypass traffic in rush hour.

The BRT project route will run from Downtown Calgary to Woodbine, and provide direct connections to major destinations that are currently underserviced by transit, such as Southland Leisure Centre, Glenmore Landing, Heritage Park, Rockyview Hospital, Mount Royal University, Lincoln Park, Currie Barracks, and Marda Loop.


Project budget

There have been a number of budget approvals related to the BRT program, with funding coming from a number of sources including the provincial and federal governments. The total Council approved budget for the BRT program and related projects is $304 million. This includes the four BRT routes, intersection improvements and noise walls which will be built as a part of the Southwest BRT.
