South Crosstown Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project

Project update - November 2018

Construction update

The South Crosstown BRT construction project – now operating as MAX Teal – is largely complete, on time and on budget. Crews will return next spring to wrap up landscaping work around the new BRT stations as required. Thank you everyone for your patience and cooperation throughout construction.

BRT service update – MAX Teal

MAX is Calgary's new rapid transit service that takes you to major destinations across the city with more convenience, more comfort and more connections than ever before.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and input on the route changes we proposed with you this fall. We finalized the changes and launched MAX Teal on Nov. 19, 2018. Route maps and schedules are available here; information about all route changes are listed on calgarytransit.com/routechanges.

The MAX Teal line can take you to Mount Royal University, Rockyview General Hospital and the Douglas Glen Park and Ride. MAX Teal also connect Westbrook and Heritage CTrain stations, and the future Green line CTrain station at Douglas Glen.

South Crosstown BRT project overview

The South Crosstown BRT project – now operating as MAX Teal – refers to The City’s construction of amenities to create a more comfortable, convenient and connected transit experience for customers. The scope of work included:

  • Installing new traffic signals to give approaching buses an extended green light.
  • Building transit-only queues that allow buses to jump ahead of other traffic.
  • Building new BRT stations along the route, complete with:
    • heated shelters
    • enhanced CCTV cameras
    • better lighting
    • larger platforms
    • public art displays
    • next-bus arrival times

Public engagement

Throughout the design process, we talked with Calgarians, transit customers, community groups and local businesses to understand how the project would impact them. Have a look at the  What We Heard Report for the feedback received.

Thanks to those conversations, we made several changes in our planning, as well as in station designs and locations.
