Assessor Progression

We’ll help you succeed in your Assessment career, including obtaining the Accredited Municipal Assessor of Alberta (AMAA) Designation from the Alberta Assessors Association.


Assessor

Degree in real estate and housing OR bachelor of business in real estate

OR degree in economics, public or business administration, commerce or related discipline, plus a minimum one year of directly related experience in property assessment and/or real estate

OR either a two-year post-secondary diploma in real property administration (assessment and appraisal), an urban and economics diploma, a post-graduate certificate in real property assessment (PGCV) or a certificate in real property assessment from a recognized post secondary institution


Associate Assessor

Degree in related discipline

Real property assessment certificate, including advanced computer assisted mass appraisal course (BUSI 444)

Minimum three to five years’ experience including:

A – minimum two years’ experience as an assessor
OR

B – one year’s experience in a role or roles that would be eligible experience for becoming an assessor*

 

* If the candidate has less than the required experience in B, the difference between actual experience and required experience must be made up by additional experience in A. Total experience requirement A+B = three year


Senior Assessor

Degree in related discipline

Real property assessment certificate, including advanced computer assisted mass appraisal course (BUSI 444)

Urban land economics diploma

  AMAA designation

Over five years’ experience
