Land Use Items

All land use items reviewed by Council were approved except those referred or tabled below:

Crescent Heights Land Use Amendment

This item was filed and abandoned.

Neighbourhood 7 in the South Shepard Area Structure Plan Land Use Amendment

Council referred the report in order to allow for further evaluation of emergency response servicing requirements. The land use amendment application proposes to re-designate the parcel in order to accommodate a range of residential, mixed-use, and special purpose districts to accommodate the proposed neighbourhood.

Olympic Bid Exploration

Council received The City’s Evaluation Summary report for information. Council approved Administration’s Option 2 recommendations which would see The City of Calgary not moving forward with a bid for the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games unless certain conditions can be satisfied. Council directed Administration to undertake any activities required to transition from the Exploration Phase to an Invitation Phase and provide an update to Council in September 2017.

Reforming the Secondary Suite Process

Council directed Administration to bring forward amendments to the land use subsidy program to only allow one application per year per applicant. Council further directed Administration to bring forward a land use bylaw amendment to differentiate between secondary suite basement and back yard suites. Administration will report back to Council through the Standing Policy Committee on Planning and Urban Development no later than Q1 2018 with recommendations on the items above.
