Calgary 2026 Draft Hosting Concept

Calgary 2026 bid corporation presented their Draft Hosting Concept to Council for discussion. The City Secretariat then presented an analysis of the Draft Hosting Plan Concept to Council in a confidential session. Council discussed and then voted to approve four recommendations, including moving forward with the vote of the electors on November 13, and for the City Secretariat to continue their due diligence work associated with the Calgary 2026 Draft Hosting Concept. Council also approved a confidential multi-party agreement negotiation framework that will guide discussions related to cost sharing agreements.

Calgary Metropolitan Region Board Update

The Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) is a mandatory growth board established through the Municipal Government Act and the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board Regulation. Council previously appointed Mayor Nenshi (Primary) and Councillor Carra (Alternate) as representatives to the CMRB Board. The CMRB Board had established three elected official Committees and on 22 June 2018 the Board voted to establish a fourth Committee focused on advocacy. Council has appointed Councillor Chahal as the elected representative and Councillor Gondek as the alternate to the newly formed Calgary Metropolitan Region Board Advocacy Committee, set to expire at the 2018 Organizational Meeting of Council; Council also appointed Councillor Gondek as the alternate representative to the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board Land Use Committee, and the Intermunicipal Servicing Committee, set to expire at the 2018 Organizational Meeting of Council.
