The Apr. 9, 2018, Planning and Urban Development Committee meeting included:

Designation of the Moxam Apartments as a Municipal Historic Resource

Conserving historic buildings through legal protection is an internationally recognized best-practice in heritage planning, and is supported by the Calgary Heritage Strategy and Calgary Municipal Development Plan. This type of designation offers legal protection, preserving a building for the future and making the owners eligible for financial assistance in maintaining the property through existing municipal and provincial incentive programs. The committee recommended that the Moxam Apartments be designated as a Municipal Historic Resource through a proposed bylaw; the property owner requested this designation and waived the right to compensation for any decreased economic value related thereto. Council approved this bylaw.
