It’s playoff time!
First off, congrats to the Calgary Flames on an amazing season. This is a really exciting time for the community to rally around the boys in red.
No matter where you watch the games, it’s also a great time to gather together and support local businesses. Whether it’s on 17th Avenue, Stephen Ave, or in your own neighbourhood (ordering in is always a great option!), let’s give our local businesses some love.
The City is stepping up to help Calgarians celebrate. For the home games, the Flames have you covered and are offering a number of events at Stampede Park. Check out their website calgaryflames.com/bringthered
For the away games starting on Monday, The City of Calgary is offering a free family viewing area at Olympic Plaza to support community spirit and cheer on our Flames. The activities at Olympic Plaza for all away games will begin one hour prior to puck drop and will include a big screen to watch the game live, activities and food trucks. This zone is family-friendly so keep in mind, alcohol and smoking are not permitted at this site. I encourage Calgarians to bring chairs or a blanket to sit on.
Across the City of Calgary, we’re working to support the community and the Flames in a number of ways. We’ve paused construction on 17th Avenue, Calgary Transit will have extra CTrains on standby to get folks to and from the games (even if the game goes late into overtime) and our colleagues at the Calgary Police Service and Calgary Community Standards will be there to keep folks safe. You’ll see some parking bans and road closures in place periodically to keep pedestrians safe so please be patient.
During the playoffs, remember to play safe. Have fun, but be respectful to businesses and people around you and remember – we’ll have LOTS of porta potties around downtown! And please, get home safe. Take Calgary Transit, a cab, or use a ride share service.
We can’t wait to cheer on our Calgary Flames starting Thursday, and we can’t wait to welcome people to Olympic Plaza on Monday. Visit Calgary.ca/playoffs for more information.
Go Flames Go!
