Today is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. After the violence we witnessed in New Zealand last week, I opened our Council meeting on Monday with some comments.
Every single one of us needs to hold our leaders, our friends, our neighbours and ourselves accountable. Language matters. Standing up to say we won’t accept intolerance and discrimination really matters.
Today is just one day aimed at ending discrimination but we need to commit ourselves to this every day.
It’s a long video, but please take a few minutes to watch.
