About Councillor George Chahal
Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me. As a born and raised Calgarian I spent my formative childhood years in Saddleridge. I have lived or worked in Northeast Calgary for over 40 years. I am married with 3 active daughters. In my previous career, I was a small business owner and successful entrepreneur. My post-secondary education was from the University of Calgary where I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and a Master of Environmental Design (Planning). I have been actively involved in volunteering and coaching in the community my entire life. I have a passion for sports that is expressed by playing competitive Ice and Ball Hockey.
In terms of our city, I believe that as our city has become one of the main growth engines of the Canadian economy, we require a clear vision for our changing city. My vision includes taking decisive action and having the political will to make tough decisions. Our Ward’s diversity is our strength and an opportunity for us to create prosperity for our Ward and all Calgary. As Councillor for Ward 5, I will attempt to ensure Council manages our growth in a responsible manner. This includes working with all levels of government and non-governmental organizations. With my experience in planning and development and education in urban planning, I believe I have the experience and expertise necessary to provide proactive solutions and leadership to manage our future growth and to help meet Calgarian’s needs.
