Carshare Returns to Calgary
I’m really happy to announce that car share is returning to Calgary. Montreal-based Communauto will launch their fleet of 150 cars mid-September in a “flex zone” that covers 26 square kilometres.
Communauto is actually one of the oldest (if not the oldest) car sharing companies and has been successfully operating in Ontario, Quebec, Paris, and Edmonton. Starting today, they’ll be accepting beta test drivers. Sign up at this link.
Pricing is as follows:
•$0.45/minute, $15/hour or $50 for one day and $35 the following days
•For day trips, 100 kms are included in the trip price, and additional kms are billed at $0.20/km
•Other plans are offered allowing people to use cars for $2.95/hour, plus $0.29/km, fuel and insurance included
•No monthly fee
The return of car share was made possible by Council's approval of the revised Carshare Parking Policies and Bylaw earlier this year. This introduced a three-tiered pricing structure for companies and allowed vehicles to park beyond posted time limits.
The "Flex Zone" is shown below:
