Lower Sarcee Feedermain - Water Infrastructure Project

Project status – August 2023

Phase 3 is underway and is anticipated to be completed in late August.

The final phase, Phase 4, is underway with construction estimated to be completed in mid-October.

Phase 3B: Underway until late August

Phase 3B is located adjacent to the Silverado Marketplace shopping complex on Sheriff King Street. The northbound lane on Sheriff King Street between Silverado Way and 194 Avenue S.W. is closed until late August. Northbound traffic is being detoured west onto 194 Avenue. Vehicles can still access the shopping complex parking lot via 194 Avenue. Southbound lanes on Sheriff King Street across from the shopping complex will remain open throughout construction. All work for Phase 3B is anticipated to be completed by late August.

Phase 4: Underway until mid-October

Construction for Phase 4 has begun and requires the closure of all lanes on Sheriff King Street between Silverado Way and Silverado Boulevard S.W. Traffic is being detoured via Silverado Way and Silverado Drive. Accesses is being maintained for the residents on properties located east of Sheriff King Street. Phase 4 construction will be completed by mid-October.

Phase 5: Complete; Intermittent road closures until September

Feedermain construction on Phase 5 is complete. The roadway has now reopened, with paving to follow in October 2023.

Please note that watermain work is anticipated to result in intermittent lane closures on 210 Avenue S.W. in August and September. This work will be completed by the area developer.

Developer-led Road Construction on Sheriff King St. from 194 Ave to 210 Ave S.

Area developers will relocate powerlines and pave of the roadway. This work will involve additional road closures, as per the developer’s construction schedule. As a result, area detours and related communications will be managed by the developer.

About the project

The Lower Sarcee Feedermain project is the construction of a new 6 km feedermain that will help provide safe, clean and reliable drinking water to new and existing communities in Southwest Calgary. 

A feedermain is a large-diameter pipe that conveys potable water from one reservoir or pumping station to another. The size of pipe used in this project is 1050mm diameter.

The route will run along James McKevitt Road SW from 162 Avenue SW to the Southwest Calgary Ring Road corridor, east along the corridor to Sheriff King Street SW and then south along Sheriff King Street SW to 210 Avenue SW.

Project benefits

  • Provide a safe, reliable water supply to new communities in southwest Calgary.
  • Reduce the possibility of water outages in existing communities by providing an additional source of water.

Project timeline

  • Phase 1: 
    • Phase 1A: Complete
    • Phase 1B: Complete. Road closed until late September, pending completion of roadway construction.
