Service description

Business Licensing ensures that businesses operating in Calgary have met certain standards of public safety, consumer protection, and legislative compliance. We oversee 40 types of businesses that do not fall under any other regulations. Our Peace Officers play a key role by investigating business operations to ensure compliance of bylaws and provincial statutes.

What we heard

You’ve said that business licensing and inspection services are important to you and the majority of Calgarians are satisfied in the delivery of this service. A large majority of Calgarians think we should invest more, or the same amount on the business licensing and inspection services.

Council direction
Council is working with Business Licensing to enact and manage the legislative changes in cannabis and the Cannabis Consumption Bylaw; both Council and Business Licensing have increased accountability to support businesses while protecting citizens. Adoption of the MyBusiness online portal has streamlined license applications, review, and approvals. A Notice of Motion on short-term rentals policy and bylaws will change the activity and compliance for short-term rentals.
