Legal Counsel & Advocacy represents internal municipal clients in legal proceedings involving The City. We also support our internal clients' delivery of services to you through identification of issues and risk, drafting legal documents, advising on legal and regulatory requirements, supporting informed decision making, and developing solutions and strategies.

What we heard
Our internal clients have said our support is necessary to successfully deliver service and achieve business outcomes. Proactive and ongoing involvement of Legal Counsel & Advocacy during a project is central to success, as we support informed decision making and provide insight and perspective to manage critical issues with the unique and political nature of our clients’ work.

Council direction
 

Council has directed that we need to create a culture that embraces appropriate levels of risk, innovation, experimentation and embraces lessons learned as opportunities to improve. We are removing red tape and barriers that create roadblocks for businesses, and assisting with managing growth in a way that creates the best social, environmental and economic outcomes within financial capacities. Legal Counsel & Advocacy also recognize that true reconciliation is only possible within an ethical space of engagement and understanding of Indigenous-Canadian history.
