Real Estate negotiates and completes all City real estate transactions to maximize economic and social benefits of our real estate portfolio. We sell surplus real estate, buy property for capital infrastructure and community service projects and manage the administrative, leasing and funding activities. In short, we provide responsible and sustainable corporate-wide land management practices.

What we heard
You’ve said that real estate transactions seem to take a long time and the process can be unclear and cumbersome. We’re working to fix this through continuous improvement strategies. Overall, we’ve got good feedback from internal customers, who believe we’re professional and have expertise in our field. We continue to work towards improving project communication and timeliness of transactions.

Council direction

 
Real estate enables support of several Council directives:
  • provide professional land management and real estate advisory services that protect The City’s assets, reduce liability, and ensure land is available for best corporate use
  • complete all corporate real estate transactions to maximize the economic and social benefits of The City's real estate portfolio. Surplus lands are identified and sold, which helps sustain the Revolving Fund, support further land acquisitions, support affordable housing and broaden the property tax base
  • acquire the land required to deliver programs for transportation network improvements, adoption of new transportation business models, and position Calgary to move into the future
