Calgary Firefighters Toy Association
The Calgary Firefighters Toy Association is a volunteer member-led organization that accepts donation of toys for the annual Children's Christmas Party at the Stampede Corral. Although not operated by the Calgary Fire Department, the department supports the association by allowing members of the public to drop of individual donations of new, unwrapped toys for the children’s party.
The Calgary Firefighters Toy Association was first launched in the 1940s when firefighters cleaned and repaired used toys to donate to underprivileged kids. For more than 50 years, Calgary firefighters have volunteered their time to keep this tradition alive for children who are less fortunate. Active and retired Calgary firefighters raise up to $50,000 each year for this volunteer-run event.
While the toy repair program is no longer active, the annual Children's Christmas Party at the Stampede Corral is still a highlight of the holiday season for many Calgary families.
With the help of Calgary's two public school boards and the Salvation Army, more than 1,700 families are invited to attend this very special Christmas party. Once the guests arrive, they are treated to lunch, live entertainment and an exciting visit from Santa Clause. All children under 12 receive a gift from Santa as well as a bag of seasonal treats.
Things are a little different this year with COVID-19. We ask you not to bring your toy donations to local fire halls this year. Instead, please take your donations to the donation bin at Market Mall or donate money online at the CFD Toy Association.
Organizations wishing to support the association with larger donations are asked to contact the Calgary Firefighters Toy Association directly.
