Canmore Park Wetland Restoration

Calgary Parks is proposing to restore a natural wetland in the eastern portion of Canmore Park, which was removed by The City in the 1960s. Since that time, we now have a better understanding of the environmental benefits wetlands provide. Today, this area remains wetter than other areas of the park, and is a candidate site for restoration, using The City’s Wetland Compensation Program funds. This restoration would support the no net loss policy for Calgary’s wetlands.

Parks hired a consultant, Urban Systems, to conduct a feasibility study to determine if this location would be suitable for restoring the wetland that previously existed. Urban Systems’ interim report concluded that a restored wetland would be feasible at this location.

Citizen feedback

We are in the early planning stages, with stakeholder and public input being key considerations in determining next steps. Thank you to those who attended the in-park community engagement session on August 8. For those who were unable to attend the session, an online survey was available from Aug 5 - Sept 2. The results have been reviewed and analyzed, and a summary of results is now available. Please continue to check this page for project updates.
