Based on updated Provincial public health measures announced May 4, all City of Calgary-operated indoor and outdoor sport, fitness and recreation programs and facility bookings will be suspended until further notice. Information about summer programs, including day camps, will be available when Provincial health orders permit.

Stay home and away from others

  • If you are showing symptoms or are feeling unwell
  • If you have travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days
  • If you are a close contact of someone who has tested positive or are waiting for test results for COVID-19

Masks and face coverings

In our Leisure Centres, you must wear a mask whenever you are not actively engaging in a physical activity. For example, masks must be worn:

  • In gymnasiums and multipurpose rooms
  • In the lobby or at Reception
  • When you’re traveling to other areas in the facility
  • If you’re coaching/instructing

How we’re keeping you safe

  • Making sure our facilities align with provincial guidelines
  • Posting signage to indicate foot traffic flow and/or areas that are closed to the public 
  • Cleaning and disinfecting high touch areas (e.g. doors, counters, railings)
  • Providing access to hand sanitizer and hand wash stations
  • Having staff maintain physical distancing and wear face coverings
  • Restricting access through a booking and appointment-only reservation system

How you and your group can keep safe

Permit holders/organizers

  • User groups will be expected to follow Public Health Orders and Guidelines
  • Make sure all participants understand the COVID-19 guidelines
  • Help coaches, instructors and leaders reinforce messages about increased physical distancing (3 metres or 10 feet apart) during physical activities and regular physical distancing (2 metres or 6 feet apart) for non-physical activities; limiting physical contact - no close contact huddles, no handshakes or high fives
  • Limit the number of physical contacts between different participants
  • No more than 10 people (1 coach/instructor with 9 participants) are allowed on each half of a split gym (no more than two groups of 10 in a gym); Gyms must be kept divided with appropriate physical distancing for the activity
  • Spectators are currently not allowed
  • Tell booking groups to bring their own equipment
  • Tell participants they must bring their own water
  • Collect participant contact information to support contact tracing if necessary
  • Organize your participants to spend as little time as possible in the facilities
  • Frequently clean and disinfect any equipment handled by hand
  • Each user group will be required to follow their provincial or national sport governing bodies guidelines related to COVID 19


  • Maintain physical distancing and wear masks when possible; Masks should not be worn when conducting intense physical activities
  • Avoid sharing equipment unless you are in the same household
  • Do not share water bottles and towels
  • Wash your hands with soap and water before and after your activity
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth and face
  • Cover coughs and sneezes in a tissue or your elbow
  • Carry and use your own hand sanitizer
  • Arrive no more than 15 minutes before your appointment time
  • Participants should come dressed in gear as much as possible
  • Don’t gather or loiter in parking areas or public areas before, during or after your appointment time
