Information

Based on updated Provincial public health measures announced May 4, all City of Calgary-operated indoor and outdoor sport, fitness and recreation programs and facility bookings will be suspended until further notice. Information about summer programs, including day camps, will be available when Provincial health orders permit.

COVID-19 Health and Safety - Pools

Stay home and away from others

  • If you are showing symptoms or are feeling unwell
  • If you have travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days
  • If you are a close contact of someone who has tested positive or are waiting for test results for COVID-19

Masks and face coverings

In our Aquatic & Fitness Centres, masks must be worn:

  • In indoor areas
  • During Low intensity weight room activities
  • During Low intensity aquatic activities
  • If you are coaching or providing instruction

According to the current Alberta Health restrictions, if you cannot wear a mask (e.g. medical reasons) then you must not participate.

Masks are not required for participants during:

  • Youth high-intensity physical activities with a trainer/coach/instructor
  • Swim lessons

 

How we're keeping you safe

  • Making sure our facilities align with provincial guidelines
  • Cleaning and disinfecting high touch areas (e.g. doors, counters, railings)
  • Providing access to hand sanitizer and hand wash stations
  • Having staff maintain physical distancing and wear face coverings
  • Providing an appointment system to manage occupancy numbers
  • Providing opportunities to collect contact information so we can notify you if there's a positive COVID-19 case

How you and your group can keep safe

  • During your activity, maintain increased physical distancing (3 metres or 10 feet apart)
  • During non-activities (e.g. moving through the facility), maintain regular physical distancing (2 metres or 6 feet apart)
  • Wash your hands with soap and water before and after your activity
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth and face
  • Cover coughs and sneezes in a tissue or your elbow
  • Carry and use your own hand sanitizer
  • Bring your own water bottle and towels; do not share water bottles and towels
  • Arrive no more than 10 minutes before your appointment time
  • Don’t gather or loiter in change rooms, parking areas or public areas before, during or after your appointment time

Aquatics specific measures

  • Hot tubs, whirlpools and steam rooms remain closed
  • Change rooms and showers will be available for swimming activities with physical distancing restrictions in place
    • Where space is tight, you may be asked to use a bin/basket for your belongings instead of change room lockers
  • No sharing equipment unless you are in the same household
  • Snorkels are not permitted
  • Stretching on the pool deck or in the water is not allowed
  • You must leave the building at the end of your appointment time no matter when you started your activity

How you and your group can keep safe during aquatic bookings

Permit holders/organizers

  • Make sure all participants understand the COVID-19 guidelines
  • Follow your provincial and national sport governing bodies' guidelines related to COVID-19:
  • Tell participants they must bring their own drinking water
  • Conduct routine screening of participants and coaches for symptoms of COVID-19
  • Collect participant contact information to support contact tracing if necessary
  • Help coaches and instructors reinforce messages about increased physical distancing (3 metres or 10 feet apart) and limiting physical contact; no close contact huddles, no handshakes or high fives
  • Ensure your participants spend as little time as possible in the facilities (including change rooms)
  • NO sharing of club equipment (e.g. goggles, flutter boards, pull buoys)

Participants, coaches and volunteers

  • Spectators are currently not allowed; parents can drop-off and assist children to the pool/change room, but must wait in their car
  • Athletes should come dressed in gear as much as possible
  • Bring and clean your own equipment. Avoid sharing equipment unless you are in the same household; Do not share water bottles and towels
  • Arrive no more than 10 minutes before your booking time
  • Don’t gather or loiter in change rooms, parking areas or public areas before, during or after your activity
  • Leave the location as soon as your activities end to reduce overlap of bookings
