Climbing wall at Southland Leisure Centre

Southland Leisure Centre Climbing wall

Our rock climbing walls are designed for all levels. They encompass a wide range of challenges.

We offer supervised drop-in climbing times for all levels. Free belay orientations and registered classes help beginners get going!

All climbers must be over 13 years old. They must demonstrate proper use of harness and safe belaying before climbing

Children 4 -12 years must be belayed by an adult (18 years and up).

Southland Leisure Centre offers three climbing structures:

  • Main wall - 23 feet high and 60 feet wide
  •  Sport wall with an overhang - approximately 32 feet high and 8 feet wide
  • Bouldering wall - 12 feet high and 24 feet wide

This feature is now open.

Jeans are allowed to be worn in climbing drop-in (by participants and instructors), but are NOT allowed on the gymnastics equipment.

Costs

Leisure centre admission applies; parent/preschooler rate applies for children 6 years and under.

Waivers required

Waivers for each participant must be filled out by a parent/guardian (or participant if 18 years or older) at Southland Leisure Centre to gain entry and participation into climbing drop-in.

Free belay classes

Anyone aged 13 and older can take the free belay class prior to climbing drop-in to learn and take the belay test. Participants 4 - 12 years are eligible to attend the belay class if an adult (18+) accompanies and belays them. 13 years and up can climb without parental supervision as long as they have passed the belay test.

Coaching tips are available at no charge during climbing drop-in.
