Lower Centre Street Bridge upgrades
The Centre Street Bridge, which crosses the Bow River along Centre Street, has been a part of the city skyline since 1916 and consists of upper and lower traffic decks.
The lower deck, which connects Memorial Drive to Riverfront Avenue, will undergo upgrades in early 2022 to allow a safe and efficient crossing for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. During construction, the existing bridge railing will be replaced and heightened for pedestrian and cyclist usage.
Throughout construction in 2022, the lower deck will be closed. There will be no access for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
Scope of work
The rehabilitation work on the bridge structure will include:
- Upgrade of the existing railings
- Installation of screens above the concrete arches on the underside of the bridge
The budget for this project is set at $1.5M
Lower deck closed
Starting Feb. 28, 2022, the lower deck of the Centre Street Bridge will be closed to all traffic. This includes cyclists and pedestrians. Cyclists on the southside of the bridge can detour via 3 Ave heading west. To cross the Bow River, please use the crossing at 2 Street S.W.
