Barlow Trail N.E. Reconstruction Project & 16 Ave. over Barlow Trail N.E. Bridge Rehabilitation Project
Built in 1978, the 16 Avenue N.E. bridge is a two-span box girder bridge that carries three (2 thru lanes and 1 loop ramp) eastbound traffic lanes and three (2 thru lanes and 1 loop ramp) westbound traffic lanes across Barlow Trail N.E. Various parts of the bridge are deteriorating due to age. The condition of the 16 Ave. N.E. bridge warrants life-cycle work. This project was tendered in the fall of 2020 and construction is planned for Spring 2021 to Fall 2021.

Sections of Barlow Trail are cracked and the ride is often bumpy during freeze/thaw cycles. Can Barlow Trail users expect a smooth ride once the project is completed?
Most areas of cracked pavement between 4 Avenue and Sunridge boulevard, including the ramps on and off 16 Avenue, will be milled out and replaced with new asphalt pavement. The remaining areas will be reconstructed down to sub-grade level in order to eliminate the bumpy ride issues brought on by freeze/thaw cycles.
