Flooding in Calgary

Calgary is better prepared today for flood events like the one in 2013.

Since the 2013 flood, we have taken steps to reduce Calgary’s exposure to flood damage. These actions have reduced our flood risk by about 50%.

Learn more about our short and long-term actions. See how we're also adapting our flood plans for COVID-19.

We can’t prevent flooding entirely, and it can happen quickly with little or no warning. Protecting our community and citizens from flooding is a shared responsibility – we all have a role to play.

You can ease the stress of the flood season by taking simple steps to be flood ready: know your flood risk, take action to prepare your home and family, and sign up for alerts to stay informed.
