To gather ideas and input from the business community to reduce red tape at The City of Calgary.
In December 2011, a Business Advisory Group was created to help us to better understand the challenges businesses face when dealing with The City. This group was comprised of organizations representing the business community and were instrumental in the success of this phase of Cut Red Tape program. We asked Calgary business people to describe the #1 challenge they have faced regarding red tape when doing business with The City, and provide a solution.
We received more than 200 cut red tape submissions from Calgary businesses. Every idea was reviewed, classified and grouped by the Business Advisory Group. To date, several solutions have been implemented, such as creating the ability to book appointments to discuss your development and building applications, creating the ability to book all inspections through 311 and allowing trades and businesses to see the estimated fees prior to completing online applications. Many of the other recommendations to cut red tape are being implemented in future City business plans.
