Improve communications for TIPP payment calculations

Issue

New homeowners who sign up for the Tax Instalment Payment Plan (TIPP) program part way through the year may encounter challenges in the fee payment schedule. Calculations for payments are not customized to reflect the supplementary tax bill if a homeowner takes possession of a home midway through the year. While the general procedure has homeowners contacting 311 to set up the TIPP program, 311 operators are not trained to deal with specific calculations on properties.

To help homeowners understand their property tax payments, inquiries that require specific calculations are sent directly to the Tax Advisory Services divisions to respond to in a timely manner. The communication procedure has been reviewed and updated to ensure that property owners receive full explanations for this type of inquiry.
