The City of Calgary
Community Standards Bylaw 5M2004 section 9 outlines the safe and suitable storage of appliances in and around your property. The following is an overview of the bylaw but please refer to the original bylaw for more detailed information. Original copies of the bylaw are available at the City Clerk's office.
Overview of the Community Standards Bylaw
- Refrigerators and freezers must have hinges and latches, or lids or doors removed before they can be stored outside.
- If the door or lid is not removed, the appliance must be kept locked, or secured shut at all times.
- Appliances must be kept out of public view when stored outside.

Fines for violations of these regulations range between $200 and $300.
