2026 Spring Clean-up Program

The City’s annual Spring Clean-up Program is set to begin next week. We wanted to pass along some helpful information about the program as sweeping in residential communities will commence this week. Due to heavy snow accumulations from the April 15-16 snow event, scheduled community dates on April 20 may be postponed.

Highlights this year

  • Flexibility: Daytime crews will sweep in communities Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking bans are in place when specific dates on signs are present. Signage is placed at every community entrance point and/or major intersections to advise residents of scheduled dates.
  • Set schedule: Each community is allocated a specific sweeping date set in advance. Any delays due to severe weather, equipment or other issues will result in rescheduling to the end of the program (later in June).
  • Avoid parking tickets by planning ahead and moving vehicles: Parking enforcement occurs through partnership with Calgary Parking. Vehicles not moved during the scheduled parking ban may receive a parking ticket. There are multiple ways to plan ahead and be prepared!
  • If debris is left behind because a vehicle/cart not moved: Sweeping crews will not typically return if vehicles are not moved during a sweeping date. Residents can sweep up missed debris into the gutter or use garbage bags (heavy debris needs to be double-bagged) when cleaning up gravel, dust and rocks. Do not leave debris loose in a black cart.

Spreading the word

We are communicating with citizens in a number of ways so that they can get information about when their communities will be swept.

The best option is to visit the Spring Clean-up street cleaning page to find:
  • Sweeping date address look up tool
  • Online map showing live progress / schedule
  • Email and text notifications
  • Program information
  • The “RoadBot” Virtual Agent
  • FAQ’s

Please watch for these signs:

Why we sweep?

  1. Environmental Benefit: To help the environment by keeping material out of our storm and river system
  2. Safety: To keep safe on our roads when walking, cycling or operating a motorized vehicle
  3. Clean Air: Make our communities clean and reduce airborne particles

Helpful tools for street cleaning days

Ward 8 has some particularly dense areas that require street sweeping, with some cars getting towed around the corner or onto another street. If this happens to you, it’s typically close by so you should be able to find it easily. More information on how to contact Citywide Towing can be found here: Supporting Spring Clean-Up (Street Sweeping). Their site also provides information about how fines and ticketing work during this time.

Finding parking in dense areas when you aren’t allowed to park on your street from 8 am to 4 pm is a tough challenge for many in Ward 8. As a helpful tool to see where you can park when street sweeping is happening on your street, you can check out the Street Sweeping Map to see which dates are allotted to each street. Putting in the effort helps our streets get cleaned properly, helping folks get around safely on skateboards, bikes, and with mobility aids.

Ward 8 community schedule

Please note that some communities have several sweeping dates listed as those areas require it for operational purposes and scheduled dates may be subject to change.

Please check Calgary.ca/sweep for the latest available information. Residents in communities are encouraged to check their home address for exact dates.
