Climate and environmental metrics
We track key metrics to measure Calgary's climate and environmental progress. These metrics help us understand what's working, what needs to change and where to focus efforts. They also support informed investment decisions, transparent reporting and accountability for policies, programs and initiatives.
Understanding metric types
The dashboard tracks and reports various measures, each classified as either a metric or an indicator. The table below describes each type.

| Type: Indicator | Description : A specific measure used to monitor progress toward a community or The City of Calgary outcome, goal or target, or to signal a changing condition, trend, hazard or risk that may influence progress toward those outcomes. |
Metrics overview and data table
The metric overview cards provide a snapshot of the most recent data and status for metrics. The data table shows detailed records by year for all metrics.
Understanding metric status
The status icon on each overview card shows how progress or performance tracks against expectations or reflects observed physical conditions or events. The table below describes each status.

Meets expectations to achieve the target or goal within an established timeframe.
Off track
Deviates from expectations, indicating a high risk of missing the target or goal.
Needs improvement
Lags behind expectations, requiring action to realign with the target or goal.
Maintaining
Remains stable and consistent with no defined target or remains at a defined target value or range.
Monitoring
Ongoing observation of conditions, with no defined target.
Adjust the View type to change how information is displayed or use the Focus area or Goal filter to narrow the cards and the table to a specific category. Select any metric to see details, context and updates.
