Obtaining or Renewing Alarm Permits

Get or renew a permit

Find out how to apply for or renew an alarm permit

Residential and commercial properties are required to have an alarm permit for each alarm system on the premises. This promotes the responsible use of alarm systems in our city.

New permits

To obtain a new permit, you can apply online, by mail or by dropping off your completed application and payment at the below addresses.

The permit fee is the responsibility of the person who has the alarm in their residence or business and we will not accept payments from alarm companies unless accompanied by a signed authorization form from the permit holder.

Please note the following:

  • For commercial/financial/school premises, ensure a contact name and email address is noted, as well as hours of operation for each day of the week.
  • Keyholder information is mandatory. Keyholders can be one of these options:
    1. Two people who do not live at alarmed property
    2. One guard service

Renewing a permit

Existing permit holders receive an alarm permit renewal invoice annually, sent to the email address registered on your alarm permit a minimum of 30 days prior to the renewal date.

The notice will be mailed if you do not have an email on file.

It is the responsibility of alarm permit holders to ensure all information contained on your permit (including contact people and hours of operation for commercial/financial/school permits) is correct and updated as required. This can be done online, by mail, by email or in person.
