Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a police officer? The Calgary Police Service's Junior Police Academy gives youths aged 12 to 16 the opportunity to find out.
Junior Police Academy runs three times a year:
- Spring Break
- the 3rd Week of July
- the 3rd Week of August
There are 25 spots available per session. During the July session we partner with Big Brothers & Big Sisters and during the August Session we partner with Boys & Girls Club of Calgary.
Youth in the Junior Police Academy experience an inside look into the life of a Calgary police officer. They get an "up close" look at many Police aspects, including:
- HAWCS helicopters
- Mounted Unit
- Crime Scene Unit
- Tactical Team
- Traffic Unit
- Public Safety Unit and more.
Youth will, also, experience some presentations from a Detective, Gang Suppression Team and the History of the Calgary Police Service and learning drill.
If you're interested in joining the Junior Police Academy, submit the application form and include a short essay (no more than 250 words) stating why you want to participate. There is no costs associated with this program. Youth will be selected one month before the session begins.
The week concludes with the kids marching on parade and receiving their certificates.
