Event and Festival Safety
Calgary is home to several special events, parades and festivals. It is important for attendees to know how to stay safe while having fun.
Follow these tips to ensure your safety and the safety of your loved ones while out celebrating.
Personal safety
- Dress for the weather with layers, comfortable shoes, sunscreen and hats
- Consuming alcohol or cannabis? Do so responsibly and know your limits. Arrange for a safe ride home
- Ensure the cellphone you are carrying is fully charged
Secure your valuables
- Only take what you need and leave other valuables at home
- Do not leave items unattended; keep your valuables with you
- Report any lost or stolen property
Vehicle safety and traffic
- Expect traffic delays and be patient
- Take public transit, if possible
- Secure your vehicle by locking your doors and rolling up your windows
Missing children
- Choose an easily remembered meeting place in case your party gets separated
- Make sure your children know:
- Your first and last name
- Your phone number
- Not to go anywhere with strangers
- Who they can go to if they get lost
- If your children are too young to remember names and phone numbers, write your information on your child’s arm or leg
- Make note of your child’s clothing and take a photo of them on the day of the event, in case you get separated
Suspicious behaviour
Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something suspicious alert a police officer or event security. Suspicious behaviour might include:
- Unattended bags or packages in odd locations
- Vehicles that seem out of place
- Individuals not dressed appropriately for the weather
