Over 41,000 cubic metres of concrete will be used throughout Scotia Place. That’s enough to fill more than 20 NHL-sized hockey arenas up to the top of the boards.
Metric tonnes of steel

Over 39,000 metric tonnes of steel rebar will be installed during construction. That’s enough to stretch more than a quarter of the way around the Earth.

Construction at-a-glance description
Design:Final agreements between The City of Calgary, Government of Alberta, Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation and Calgary Exhibition and Stampede officially launched the design phase.
Site preparation: Crews began to make the room necessary for the full 10-acre space by moving 5 Street S.E., to the east and building 5A Street S.E. Excavation began following a formal ground-breaking and design reveal in July 2024.
Construction:Construction started on the foundation in January 2025, with Scotia Place scheduled to open fall 2027.
