The future is coming into focus - Scotia Place construction makes major progress in May

In May, Scotia Place continued to take shape as Calgary’s future home of entertainment, while continuing to make its mark on the City’s evolving skyline.

Work advanced across the roof, interior and exterior of the building, giving a clearer sense of what visitors will experience when doors open in fall 2027. The roof deck reached roughly one-third of completion, and installation of metal decking progressed across key areas, including the Food Hall. The trellis structure is also now in place on the southwest rooftop restaurant patio, while concrete stadia installation progressed on the east side of the upper bowl.

Other highlights include:

  • Interior wall installation continued on the mezzanine level

  • Progress on installation of the catwalk

  • Exterior drywall installed on the west and northwest sides of the cauldron

  • Installation of exterior metal panels on the south side of the cauldron

  • Steel installation progressed at the Esso Community Arena entrance

  • Ongoing work to raise 14 Avenue S.E. by 2 metres (6.5 feet) to improve site access

Across the site, interior and exterior elements continue to take shape, making the building more defined from all angles and key public-facing spaces starting to emerge.

Watch the progress below!

Progress continues on 6 Street S.E. underpass

Construction on the 6 Street S.E. underpass is moving along, with crews focused on the bridge foundation. Behind the scenes you can start to see progress take shape, including the construction of the abutment foundations that will support the future crossing.

While much of this work happens below ground, it is a key step in bringing the underpass to life. Once complete, the new 6 Street S.E. underpass will add a second crossing under the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) rail line, improving connections between 9 Avenue S.E. and 11 and 12 Avenues S.E., increasing access to Scotia Place and surrounding developments, and supporting a more connected, walkable and vibrant C+E District.

C+E District detours

12 Avenue S.E. between Stampede Trail S.E. and 5 Street S.E. will be closed from June 1 – 26, 2026 to support construction of Scotia Place.

The following detours will be in place during this closure:

  • Eastboud and westbound vehicle traffic will be detoured via 11 Avenue S.E.

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained on the north sidewalk of 12 Avenue S.E.

  • Access to the BMO Centre and Scotiabank Saddledome will be from Stampede Trail S.E.

To minimize delays, we recommend:

  • Following all detour signage in place.

  • Taking Calgary Transit. The Victoria Park/Stampede LRT Station is within walking distance of major venues in the area.

  • Parking at nearby lots such as the Platform Innovation Centre Parkade (9 Avenue S.E. and 3 Street S.E.) or the 11 Avenue S.E. Lot and walk via Stampede Trail S.E.
