Spring momentum builds at Scotia Place

April showers and spring snowfalls brought visible progress at Scotia Place this month, with major milestones reached both inside and out.

Steel installation advanced across all areas of the roof, including the placement of additional roof trusses that now span the full width of the main arena seating bowl, 104 metres (341 feet), giving a true sense of the scale of the venue. Work on the upper concourse and suite level also continued, with precast concrete installation progressing on the north side of the main upper bowl and roofing beginning on the west side restaurants and flagship retail store.

Externally, the first panels of the cauldron were installed on the south side of the building, exterior drywall progressed toward the southwest entrance, and work began along 14 Avenue S.E. to improve pedestrian and vehicle access.

6 Street S.E. Underpass construction progress

Construction continues to progress on the 6 Street S.E.. Work on the temporary rail track is now complete, allowing Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) trains to be rerouted and crews to begin work beneath the permanent tracks.

With trains shifted onto the temporary line, foundation construction for the underpass has erouted and crews to begin. While much of this work is happening behind the scenes, it’s an important step toward building a new crossing that will improve access and help people move more easily through and around the Culture + Entertainment District.
