January Highlights

Exciting progress continues at Scotia Place last month as major structural elements continue to take shape around the site. Inside the main event space, installation of the precast concrete seating bowl is underway, giving the first real sense of where fans will soon cheer, celebrate and experience the energy of live events.

Watch the installation below:

Our January timelapse highlights steady progress across the site, including:

  •  Continued pouring concrete for the parkade walls and main concourse
  •  Steel framework progressed on the upper deck
  •  Began steel installation for the SW restaurant
  •  Prepared the floor of the food hall and north restaurant for concrete to be poured

Watch it come together below:

2026 will bring more exciting momentum as Scotia Place continues to make a big mark on Calgary’s skyline.

6 Street S.E. Underpass construction update

Starting in early January, 9 Avenue S.E. was reduced to two lanes between 5 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E. to support utility upgrades for the new 6 Street S.E. Underpass. As work progresses, additional traffic changes are expected the week of Feb. 9, which will include no access to 6 Street S.E. and no turns left at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland west entrance, while the east entrance remains open. Crews are continuing to relocate and upgrade utilities in the area, and we encourage pedestrians, cyclists and drivers to watch for signage and temporary detours.

The 6 Street S.E. Underpass is an important project that will improve access to Calgary’s emerging Culture + Entertainment District and surrounding developments, including Scotia Place. The new connection will run beneath the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Rail line between 9 Avenue S.E. and 11 Avenue S.E., featuring two lanes in each direction and well-lit pathways for pedestrians and other active modes. A clear-span bridge design and enhanced lighting will improve sightlines and create a safer, more comfortable experience for everyone who lives, works and visits the area.

Scotia Place Construction: February Traffic Impacts

There will be street closures on 5A Street S.E. and 14 Ave S.E. throughout February to facilitate construction of Scotia Place and District infrastructure improvements. Both streets will be limited to local traffic only, with a full closure of 14 Ave S.E. expected later in the month. During these closures:

  •  Access to the Sam Centre and Calgary Arts Academy will be available via 12 Ave S.E.
  •  Access to The Saddledome lots will be available via Agriculture Trail.
  •  People driving can avoid road closures by taking Stampede Trail and 12 Ave S.E.

Periodic lane reductions will also occur along 12 Ave S.E. between 5 Street S.E. and Stampede Trail. Vehicle access will be maintained in both directions. The south sidewalk will be closed, but pedestrians can continue to use the north sidewalk.

Check the C+E Access Map for details and real-time updates.
