Scotia Place progresses with below-ground and foundation construction
Scotia Place has officially marked the start of below-ground and foundation construction!
To date, crews have installed more than 1,100 structural piles surrounding the footprint of the site —a critical step in ensuring Scotia Place’s stability. At the end of March crews began standing up large rebar panels and began pouring concrete for the first series of foundation walls.
The Scotia Place project team is working with LeuWebb (public art consultant) and Heavy (public art construction manager) to curate and commission four outdoor public art pieces for Scotia Place.
Until April 23, 2025, LeuWebb is inviting Calgarians to provide their input to help shape the public art installations. Those interested can participate by completing the online survey, taking part in virtual or in-person workshops, and/or applying to be part of the Scotia Place Public Art Selection Committees.

Momentum is building in Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District, as Calgary Municipal Land Corporation, The City of Calgary, the Calgary Stampede and Calgary Sports & Entertainment Corporation work in partnership to deliver the master plan vision for the vibrant downtown neighbourhood.
Moving into the spring construction season, construction on Scotia Place and the redevelopment of the Stampede Trail corridor continues. This brings a series of road and sidewalk impacts and detours in The C+E District for Calgarians through 2025.
Stampede Trail Intermittent Restrictions and Closures
There will be intermittent road closures, lane and sidewalk restrictions along Stampede Trail between 12 Ave and 14 Ave SE to facilitate utilities and streetscape works related to Scotia Place construction and the second phase of the Stampede Trail Redevelopment project.
Through the spring, Calgarians can anticipate pedestrian and vehicle detours related to:
As construction on Scotia Place and District development and improvements continues through 2025, additional vehicle and pedestrian detours will be used to ensure access for those who visit The C+E.
Visit The C+E Access Map for real-time construction and access updates to help you plan your visit to The Culture + Entertainment District.
