The next phase of construction is underway on the 6 Street S.E. Underpass, an exciting project that will make it easier to access Calgary’s emerging Culture + Entertainment District and surrounding developments, including Scotia Place.
Once complete, this new connection will run beneath Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Rail, between 9 Avenue S.E. and 11 Avenue S.E., and will feature two lanes in each direction along with well-lit pathways for pedestrians and active modes of transportation.
The clear-span bridge design and enhanced lighting will improve sightlines and create a safr, more comfortable experience for everyone who lives, works and visits The Culture + Entertainment District.
Current work:
To prepare for construction, crews began enabling works on January 12, including relocating and upgrading utilities along 9 Avenue S.E.
While this work is underway, 9 Avenue S.E. is reduced to two lanes, one eastbound and one westbound, between 5 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E. Please watch for signs and follow detours for pedestrians and active modes.
Thank you for your patience as we build a more connected Calgary.
