From community celebrations and festivals to everyday gatherings and event-day excitement, Scotia Place will feature three flexible public spaces that extend beyond the arena. Designed to bring people together year-round, the indoor and outdoor plazas will create new places to meet, celebrate and experience the energy of Scotia Place.

Public plaza highlights

Three outdoor plazas

From everyday meetups to major celebrations, each outdoor plaza offers a unique way to experience Scotia Place, creating flexible spaces where fans, visitors and community members can gather at any time of day, before, during or after events. 

South outdoor plaza

The south outdoor plaza will be the heart of event-day excitement at Scotia Place. Home to the future Calgary Flames Red Lot and a large outdoor viewing area, it is designed for watch parties, festivals and major celebrations.

Planned features include:

  • Space for large-scale community celebrations and event programming 

  • Flexible space for festivals and special events

Southwest plaza and entrance

Located at the intersection of 14 Avenue S.E. and Stampede Trail, the southwest plaza creates an active and welcoming experience. Designed for seasonal activations, markets and public programming, it offers opportunities to explore and enjoy the atmosphere surrounding Scotia Place.

Planned features include:

  • Festival-ready connections to surrounding public spaces

North entrance and plaza

Located alongside restaurants, retail and public spaces, the north entrance and plaza offer a vibrant place to arrive, meet up and explore before and after events.

  • Welcoming arrival plaza

  • Connections to nearby restaurants, retail and amenities

  • Integrated seating and landscaped areas

Indoor plaza

Connected directly to the south and southwest outdoor plazas, the indoor plaza is designed as a flexible community space that can accommodate exhibits, markets, celebrations and special events.

Outside of ticketed and private events, the space is planned to be open to the public, providing opportunities for year-round programming and community use.

Planned features include:

  • Welcoming indoor gathering space

  • Open, light-filled environment

  • Connections to nearby restaurants, retail and amenities

  • Bookable space for private functions and celebrations

  • Climate-controlled comfort year-round

Land acknowledgement

Calgary sits on fertile land where two rivers meet, where Indigenous Peoples have been gathering for thousands of years, sharing knowledge and storytelling, and planning for future generations. The traditional names for this place we know as Calgary are Moh-kins-tsis, Wîchispa Oyade, Otos-kwunee and Guts-ists’i — the land that has given so much to so many.

Elders teach us the importance of acknowledging the land of where we gather, settle or visit, and offering gratitude for the generosity of the gifts that Mother Earth has shared with us. With this, we offer respect for those who traditionally lived on this land, and welcome those who have made Calgary their home.

Calgary is located on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. This includes the Blackfoot Confederacy, made up of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations; the Îethka Nakoda Wîcastabi First Nations, comprised of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations; and the Tsuut’ina First Nation. Calgary is also homeland to the historic Northwest Métis and to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. We acknowledge all Indigenous urban Calgarians who have made this city their home. Together, their spiritual and practical relationships to the land create rich lessons for our life as a community.

We are thankful for the opportunity that this sacred place provides us to engage in reconciliation and to make life better every day for all who call Calgary home.
