Building opportunity for a more inclusive workforce

The construction industry is facing a significant labour shortage. With 21% of the 2024 workforce expected to retire by 2034,* there is a need to attract new skilled workers. Addressing this shortage will require a range of strategies, including engaging traditionally under-represented groups. This moment presents a unique opportunity to build a more inclusive workforce and support the industry in meeting future demands.

How we support workforce diversity

By working closely with contractors, we aim to help them succeed by exploring innovative ways for incentivizing those who actively provide training, employment, and supply chain opportunities for:

  • Apprentices
  • Indigenous Peoples
  • Women
  • Indigenous-owned businesses
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises

This initiative strives to complement existing Provincial and Federal efforts to increase workforce diversity and retention, aligning with the Government of Canada’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and meaningful employment.

Together, we’re building a skills legacy that leaves the industry stronger and more inclusive for future generations.
