Bow River
The Bow River contract will deliver critical infrastructure that carries Green Line trains across Ogden Road, the Bow River and Deerfoot Trail. As one of the most visible sections of the future LRT system, the project includes major bridge construction, guideway works, structural walls, earthworks and a new multi-use pathway connecting communities on both sides of the corridor.
Scope of work
Ogden Road bridge
This bridge will support Green Line operations by crossing Ogden Road without impeding roadway traffic below. The bridge forms the eastern gateway to the Bow River crossing corridor and connects to adjacent guideway infrastructure and retaining structures.
Bow River bridge
This complex structure will require specialized engineering, environmental protection measures and sequencing to safely construct a bridge across one of Calgary's most important natural corridors. The bridge will also accommodate a parallel multi-use pathway connection for pedestrians and cyclists.
Deerfoot Trail bridge
This bridge will carry Green Line trains and the adjacent multi-use pathway across one of Calgary's busiest roads.
Guideway and track support infrastructure
This work includes construction of the guideway corridor between the major bridge structures, including duct banks, equipment foundations and other supporting infrastructure required for Green Line systems.
Structural walls and embankments
Retaining walls, structural walls and engineered embankments will support the elevated guideway approach sections and bridge connections. These structures help maintain the required track alignment while integrating the project into the surrounding landscape.
Earthworks and utility infrastructure
This work includes grading, embankment construction, utility relocations and installation of other underground infrastructure required to support the long-term operation of the transit system.
New multi-use pathway connection
A new multi-use pathway will be constructed alongside the corridor, including crossings over the Bow River and Deerfoot Trail. Once complete, the pathway will create a new active transportation connection for pedestrians and cyclists, improving access between communities and expanding the city's pathway network.
