About the station

South Hill station is located east of the existing Shepard Road between Glenmore Trail and 86 Avenue S.E., near the community of Riverbend and the Foothills Industrial area.

The station will be a transit hub that will connect transit riders to the rapid transit network, jobs in the nearby commercial and industrial areas, and serve local routes and the community of Riverbend.

Pre-construction work

Since 2017, Enabling Works projects have been underway in the community to prepare for main construction. Enabling Works projects include:

  • utility relocations
  • land preparation
  • environmental remediation
  • transit route improvements

Long-term vision

The station area currently contains almost 20 acres of largely vacant City-owned land. This is a unique opportunity for Transit Oriented Development (TOD). This area has several sites with potential for TOD developments in the next 10-20 years, while the greater TOD area could develop in the longer term (20 plus years).

In 2016, Council approved South Hill Station Area Concept Plan. It included pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use development, with opportunities for larger scale development on the lands north and south of Glenmore Trail, and across the canal to the east. The TOD would balance residential and commercial development, ensuring there is appropriate population density to support future retail and office growth, and provide transit ridership in the area.

New development around Green Line stations

A new LRT station will spur development in this area. For a list of current planning applications near this station view The City's Development Map.
