Moving towards construction

Green Line Quarterly Update – September 2019

Green Line is vital to the future of Calgary and benefits all Calgarians by connecting communities, providing additional mobility choices and promoting future transit-oriented developments.

Today, the Green Line project team presented the third quarterly update for 2019 to City Council’s Transportation & Transit Committee. Through the update, the team confirmed their commitment to deliver Stage 1 of the Green Line within the project’s $4.903 billion budget and highlighted their progress in meeting this commitment, including:

  1. Working towards construction of Segment 1, between Ramsay and 126 Ave. S.E., to begin in 2021
  2. Continuing to re-evaluate the LRT route through the Centre City, between 16 Ave. N. and Ramsay
  3. Creating a Green Line Stakeholder Relations program to help stakeholders prepare for and manage the potential impacts of LRT construction

In addition to Administration’s update, the Green Line’s third-party Technical and Risk Committee, comprised of external industry project specialists, delivered their first presentation to the Transportation & Transit Committee. It included an update on their terms of reference, their preliminary schedule and their first independent review of the project.

 

While the Green Line team continues this work, Enabling Works projects are underway along Segment 1, focusing on getting utilities and locations ready for the future line.

“By focusing on completing Enabling Works in preparation for building the Green Line, we’re able to effectively mitigate risks in advance,” says Managing Director of the Green Line, Allan Neill. “As most of the unknowns in any infrastructure project are underground, addressing these variables now significantly lowers the risk during the main construction phases of the line.”
