Meet the Calgarians Building the Green Line – Vastavikta Gandhi

Meet Vastavikta Gandhi, an APEGA registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) on Calgary’s Green Line LRT Project. Since joining the project two years ago, Vastavikta has been an integral part of the project supporting different areas.
Vastavikta began with the Beltline Downtown Utility Relocation Project (BDURP) at the Event Centre/Grand Central station where she conducted site inspections, resolved design issues, and managed traffic impacts in downtown Calgary. After the successful completion of BDURP, Vastavikta moved to the Environmental team, where she now works on environmental permits, public welfare measures like noise and vibration barriers, and contamination mitigation during construction. She helps build business cases from an environmental perspective, ensuring the project aligns with sustainability goals and working towards the Infrastructure Sustainability ENVISION award for the project.

Vastavikta is a strong advocate for diversity in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), believing “innovation thrives when diverse perspectives are involved”. Vastavikta was nominated to be a mentor with TELUS Spark’s “Operation Minerva”, a program for grades 8 and 9 women and gender-diverse students, inspiring them to pursue careers in engineering.
Looking ahead, she believes the Green Line LRT will not only improve mobility for Calgarians but also drive economic growth. “Public infrastructure is essential for a thriving society, and the Green Line will connect people, enhance accessibility, and contribute to the city’s long-term success.”
Vastavikta’s work on the Green Line LRT is shaping Calgary’s future while inspiring the next generation of engineers.
