Meet the Calgarians building the Green Line: Clarke MacIntyre, PCL Construction

Having spent his childhood in Drumheller before moving to Calgary when he turned 14, Clarke MacIntyre, Project Superintendent at PCL Construction, is very familiar with what a close-knit community looks and feels like. His family previously owned and lived in a market-garden greenhouse which meant that community members were constantly coming in and out, something that Clarke describes as a bond-building experience.

Clarke loves the mix of big-city life and mountain/prairie living that Calgary provides and emphasizes his appreciation for the energy provided by the city’s diverse population.

With his family heavily involved in construction, Clarke has been a part of the industry from a very young age. Clarke is the project superintendent for PCL Construction on the Green Line’s utility relocation project in the Downtown and Beltline areas, a significant multi-year project that provides infrastructure renewal while making way for the main construction of new track and stations.  He holds a Civil Engineering Technology degree from SAIT and with more than 20 years of experience in the industry now, Clarke says that his favourite part about working construction is still about meeting new people and learning about different aspects of life and operations from them.

Often using transit to get downtown and to various events happening throughout the city, Clarke has a great appreciation for Calgary’s various LRT lines. He believes the Green Line will be a practical addition to the city’s infrastructure that greatly increases access to rapid transit in and out of the downtown area. Clarke also thinks that the Green Line will help increase accessibility to local businesses, especially from areas that may not have had access previously.
