Downtown Segment
Green Line LRT Downtown Segment Update
We want to hear from you! From February 9 to March 2, share your thoughts about an elevated Green Line LRT through the Beltline and downtown at a variety of engagement opportunities.
Your feedback will help inform a Functional Plan that will advance the design, validate cost estimates, and help us understand potential impacts to existing infrastructure.
Engagement includes in-person and online opportunities:
- An online survey runs from February 9 to March 2.
- Virtual engagement sessions provide you with an opportunity to hear directly from the project team, ask questions, and build understanding of the elevated concept. Registration is required.
- February 10: 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. – register here
- February 28: 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. – register here
- In-person drop-in sessions will be held between February 18 to 22 in the lower level of Memorial Park Library at 1221 2 Street S.W. No registration is required, but we recommend checking our engagement page for the times we will be there, so you don’t miss us.
After engagement closes, we will share what we heard, how it is being applied, and how it influences technical planning.
Background Information
With construction underway on the SE Segment, from Shepard to the Event Centre/Grand Central Station, work is concurrently moving forward on the Functional Plan for the Downtown Segment.
The Functional Plan will examine an elevated alignment between the Event Centre/Grand Central Station, along 10 Avenue S. in the Beltline and 2 Street S.W. downtown. This work will build on the concept developed by the Province of Alberta and includes validating the design and costs for an elevated route.
The topics being studied include:
- station concepts and locations,
- how people will get on and off the trains at stations,
- if and how adjacent buildings and amenities may connect,
- designs for the guideway that the trains will travel along, and,
- options for how public spaces under the guideway might be used.
Where possible, feedback received during engagement will be used to advance the design and recommendations for the Downtown Segment.
