2 Avenue S.W. Green Line Station
The 2 Avenue SW station is located within the Eau Claire area and is planned to be a fully-integrated station with the future development of the Eau Claire Market site. The station will be underground, and will be designed in way to allow private development to occur over top in the future. Inspired by the new Central Library which encapsulates Calgary Transit’s Red Line portal, the 2 Avenue SW portal station could be developed in a similar fashion.
This station will provide access to the Chinatown Business Improvement Area and is close to the Bow River Pathway, Princes Island Park, the world-famous Peace Bridge, and the Chinese Cultural Centre.
Long-term vision for the 2 Avenue S.W. Station
People using transit to connect to this station will be able to visit many community amenities and cultural destinations. They will be within walking distance of:
- the Bow River
- Numerous shops and restaurants
- the YMCA recreation centre
- Prince’s Island Park, Eau Claire Plaza, Sien Lok Park and the Eau Claire Promenade Pathway network
- Calgary’s Chinatown and a variety of other community amenities
It will provide an additional transportation choice for people to attend the many outdoor events and festivals that happen in the Centre City every year. The station will provide further access to outdoor recreational space, cultural and historic assets.
As this station will be in the Centre City, people who work in the many office towers and businesses in the area will have another option for travelling to and from work. Redevelopment in the area will bring additional residents and jobs to the area, making it important to provide the people who live, work and play in the area with additional travel choices.
