Construction update

Enabling Works projects are currently underway in the community. These projects include utility relocations, land preparation, environmental remediation and transit improvements that typically require long lead times and ample resources. More information about Enabling Works projects that are currently underway can be found below:

  • Investigative Drilling

Investigative Drilling  - starting September 14, 2020

The City will be conducting geotechnical field investigation work (drilling) on 11 Avenue S between 6 Street SE and Centre Street starting September 14 for approximately one month.

The field investigation will involve drilling into the ground at specific locations along the future Green Line route to obtain subsurface information and extract soil samples. The different drill rigs will produce various noise levels and possible minor vibrations. See image below for drilling locations.

Drilling activity will require rolling lane closures on 11 Avenue between 6 Street SE and Centre Street from east to west. Each lane closure will be in place for approximately 2 days, weather dependent.

See more information on this project.

The 4 Street SE station is close to the restaurants and attractions in the East Village, the Calgary Stampede grounds, Scotiabank Saddledome, BMO Centre, and future Events Centre.

This station will be an integral part of the Rivers District Masterplan, which is planning the and will help unlock significant redevelopment potential of the East Victoria Park area.  The underground station will include station entrances that may be fully or partially integrated within adjacent developments or may be stand-alone structures that provide direct access from the underground platform to street level.

Long-term vision for the 4 Street S.E. Station

The location of the 4 Street S.E. Station will provide Calgarians with another option for travelling to the vibrant communities in the Beltline and East Village, and the many community amenities and services they have to offer. It will connect Calgarians to amenities like:

  • Fort Calgary
  • Patrick’s Island
  • The Stampede Grounds
  • and many businesses and restaurants in the area

Due to its proximity to the regional pathway systems and parks, Calgarians will be able to walk or ride their bike, skateboard or scooters to this station. This will enable them to travel to other parks and green spaces in communities along the Green Line.

The neighbourhoods around this station are transforming and redeveloping. This new LRT station will support additional residential and non-residential redevelopment opportunities planned for the area.
