Shepard Station serves the residential community of Douglasdale to the west and the new South Trail Crossing area.

The station is located within walking distance of South Trail Crossing, a major shopping and entertainment destination in southeast Calgary. It will be a transit hub with:

  • a Park and Ride
  • upgraded waiting and station facilities
  • improved pedestrian and cycling connections

This station is surrounded by car-oriented commercial and retail and does not currently have a pedestrian-friendly environment. Upgraded sidewalks and multi-use pathways will improve walkability in the area. Pedestrian connections from Douglasdale to the station will be important as the community is separated by Deerfoot Trail S.E.

A transit vehicle maintenance facility will likely be located immediately north of the station. The site provides additional opportunities for other buildings such as a future bus operations and maintenance facility that can be accessed via the station.

Long-term vision for the Shepard Station

Plans for the area around the Shepard Station include a one million square foot office development, like Quarry Park.

The LRT station and transit hub in the area provides:

  • another option for travelling to and from work
  • an affordable option to get to the commercial and retail businesses in the area
