Coffee and hot chocolate canister

How to dispose of coffee and hot chocolate canisters

Put coffee canisters and hot chocolate canisters into your black cart as garbage. These canisters usually consist of a paper/cardboard body, metal bottom and/or rim and foil lining.

Recycle the plastic lid in your blue cart.

Common canisters include:

  • Beverage powder mix canisters
  • Iced tea powder canisters
  • Ground coffee and coffee bean canisters
  • Hot chocolate canisters
  • Loose leaf tea and tea bag canisters

Why can't these canisters be recycled?

These containers are made of multiple/mixed materials (paper tube, foil lining, metal bottom) that cannot be easily separated for recycling. The container as a whole is not recyclable.
